The National Honor Society (NHS)
(NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations
established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More
than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated
excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and

in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
Founded in 1992, Kyiv International School (KIS) is an independent, non-profit,

The academic program uses a Performance-Based/Mastery Learning approach to learning.
This model insures mastery of specific skills and knowledge involving both individual
and group instruction. The educational philosophy is founded upon the premises that:
1) All students can succeed, 2) Success breeds success, and 3) It is the responsibility
of the School to provide the conditions for success. This is a tested, highly successful
academic program.
The School offers a performance-based, mastery-learning educational program with
a curriculum similar to that of U.S. public and private schools. Instruction takes
advantage of small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of the students.
KIS is an IB World School and offers the IB Diploma to students in grades 11 and
12. Advanced Placement classes are offered in the secondary program. Instruction
is in English. Foreign languages offered at KIS include Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish,
French, and German. The School is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges
and Schools. The School is also a full member of the Central and Eastern European
School Association. Students participate in a wide range of interscholastic and
co-curriculum activities.
In the 2007-2008 school year, there are 65 full-time and 2 part-time faculty members,
including 30 U.S. citizens, 20 host-country nationals, and 17 third-country nationals.
The park like campus includes an early childhood wing, secondary school wing, new
